LADY IN THE VERANDA

The scene is an Africandi living space. A woman reclines on a curved sofa, unhurried, on her varanda. Behind her, a breezeblock screen filters the garden beyond its geometric pattern carrying centuries of African architectural intelligence. Light moves through those perforations the way it was always meant to. Not blocked. Not controlled. Welcomed in.

Everything in this space breathes.

This print began with a question asked during a sourcing trip in Nigeria. If the climate is warm, why are we building homes that work against it? Traditional African architecture knew something modern construction has forgotten. This is a record of that knowledge and an invitation to bring it home.

WHY AFRICAN HOMES BREATHE

Long before mechanical ventilation, African architects understood something modern construction has largely forgotten, how to design spaces that work with the climate, not against it.
